Birth Announcement Etiquette

What should I include in a custom birth announcement?

While you can add personal touches to your custom birth announcements, there are certain things that are typically included in all baby announcements. These items include an introduction, the baby’s name, the birth info and a conclusion.

  • Introduction
Most birth announcements begin with a phrase to lead into your baby’s name. You will have a wide selection of options to choose from, or you can opt to include a personalized message here. The choice is yours. Common examples include “Introducing…”, “We welcome with love…”, and “We’re thrilled to announce the arrival of…”.
  • Baby’s Name
This aspect of the birth announcement is pretty self-explanatory. You will include the first, middle and last name of your newborn in a prominent position on your custom baby announcement.
  • Birth Info
This section of the birth announcement is dedicated to divulging the details on your new baby. On both a girl birth announcement and a baby boy announcement you can include the baby’s date of birth, length and weight. These are the most common attributes included in a baby announcement. However, it is also appropriate to include the baby’s time of birth and place of birth, if you wish.
  • Conclusion
At the end of the custom birth announcement, you will include the parents’ names, which can be introduced with a short word or two on your feelings, such as “Proud Parents.” The parents’ names are then typically followed by the names of the baby’s siblings (and even family pets!), if any.
  • Photograph
You can also include a photograph of your newborn to add an even more personal touch. A photo birth announcement can be something special for all to remember; however, including a photo is by no means necessary. Many parents opt to have pictures taken of their baby a few months later. Do what you feel is appropriate.
