Why Letterpress?
About Letterpress
Letterpress is a printing technique that dates back to the 1400’s and Johannes Guttenberg’s invention of movable type. Individual letters forged out of lead were carefully hand set, inked and impressed into sheets of paper, creating one of the earliest forms of modern printing. This is the method we use here at Hello!Lucky -- with a few minor improvements, such as our “modern” (circa 1950’s) printing equipment!
Each Hello!Lucky letterpress wedding invitation, birth announcement or stationery card begins with a spark of creativity. The design is then rendered and refined and made into printing plates, one for each colour. Next, our printers, experts in their field, ink their presses and print each colour separately, fitting the layers together. Each resulting piece is a unique work of art, the culmination of hours of craft and creativity.
