Save the Date Q&A

When should I mail out save the dates?

It depends on where your wedding will be held, the size of your guest list, and how formal it is. For most weddings, sending save the dates about 6 months ahead works well.

If you're having a destination wedding, it's a good idea to send save the dates 6 - 8 months before so guests have plenty of time to make travel arrangements. Also send them early if you have an extensive B list or if your venue has limited capacity (getting early responses can help you make room for other guests).

If you're planning small, local and/or informal wedding you can send save the dates 4 - 5 months before, let guests know by e-mail, or forgo the save the date and just send a wedding invitation (about 2-3 months before the wedding).
